Hospice Ceremony - Sunday 2 December
Please be aware that the streets around the Hospice will be really busy before the ceremony as no parking is available on site. The ceremony starts at 4pm so allow plenty of time if driving, or use public transport where possible.
Throughout the festive period, the Light up a Life Appeal provides an opportunity to remember our loved ones. Everyone is encouraged to join us by taking part, whether you have a personal connection with St Gemma's or not. It is a time for us all to reflect and remember the special moments we have shared with those closest to us.
We invite you to make a donation of your choice in memory of as many people as you wish, and a light will shine for each of them on one of our festive trees at the Hospice. The lights will shine throughout the festive season from 2nd December until 5th January.
Once you've donated you will be posted a special card bearing the name of each person remembered and a star to hang on your own tree. You will also be invited to attend one of our remembrance ceremonies (details below).
Alternatively, when you make your donation you can choose to recieve a home pack, which includes a candle, pin badge and readings for you to have your time of reflection whenever you choose.
We hope you can join us at one of our candlelit remembrance ceremonies:
Hospice Light up a Life Ceremony
Sunday 2nd December, 4:00pm
This will be in the Hospice grounds, where the thousands of lights will be switched on.
Immaculate Heart Church Ceremony
Wednesday 12th December, 6:30pm
This second ceremony will take place indoors at Immaculate Heart Church on Harrogate Road.
During each ceremony there will be carols, readings and a time to reflect before the lights on the festive trees are switched on. Full details of the ceremonies will be sent out to you. Don't worry if you are not able to attend nearer the time.
Your donation will help patients and their loved ones receive the support and care they need at Christmas. From the big things like managing someone's pain to the little things like a hand to hold in the night.
"I’ll never forget my first Light up a Life service, watching from the balcony with my Mum when she was a patient at St Gemma's. Donating to Light up a Life is a really special way for our family to remember her, whilst supporting the place that gave us so much." - Beverley, daughter of Joyce who was a patient at St Gemma's Hospice
If you have any questions or to donate over the phone, please call 0113 218 5555 or email email@example.com.
Watch the video below to hear Beverley's story about why Light up a Life is so important to her. Her mum was a patient with St Gemma's over Christmas when the ceremony took place, so it always holds a special place in her heart.
